Visiting pilots

Information for pilots visiting Norway and Voss.

First of all, any pilot with a Norwegian adress must hold a Norwegian licence no matter nationality.

All foreign pilots with a membership in a foreign organization for hang-, para- and/or speedgliding and a valid licence visiting Norway as a tourist are allowed to fly for up to 6 months as a guest pilot (up to 12 months for exchange students).

Pilot with a licence

You are allowed to fly according to your national licence, but are required to follow Norwegian laws and regulations. Norway also acknowledge the IPPI system. You are obliged to bring your licence and proof of 3rd party insurance with you and show them upon request.

Converting your licence?

If you want to convert your licence into a norwegian certificate you can contact our operational manager. Note that you need to have some sort of valid documantation for the level of competence you would like to convert into.

Voss as a flying spot

The gondola is a natural meetingpoint for pilots around Voss when it is conditions for flying. The map below shows the most common takeoffs, lanings and routes to fly cross country. For everyone flying, and especially XC, we recommend using the app «Safesky«.

Airspace information

Be especially aware of the no fly zone above the airfield in Bømoen. There can be several skydiving planes, other small planes and gliders in the air.

Weather stations

We have holfuy weather stations several places around Voss. You can find them by searching for «VossHPK». The main launch in Voss is 5 minute walk from the gondola top station, and is called «Hangurstoppen Aust». It is good to launch from here on light, easterly winds.

The other launch that is reachable from the gondola is «Hangur Sør» , which works with southerly winds. It is a 15 minutes walk from the top station. You can also find the pin for the launches by searching for «Voss HPK» in google maps.  Our main landing is in the grass field below Fleischers Hotel. This landing, and the grass field in the east end of the lake is great for practicing ground handling. Especially with westerly winds.

If you do other flights in the area, please be mindful of the land owners. This goes for driving on private roads, parking and especially landings. Remember to pay the fee that is for some of the private roads. There is usually a sign with information by the gate.

Many of the good landings are on cultivated land, which means that it is not preferrable to land on the fields just before harvest. If you are in doubt, just stop by and ask the owner before you go for it. Also remember to close all gates while driving in the mountains. There is a lot of sheep and cows grazing during the summer season.

More info on the different flying spots is to be found here. The pages are under translation, but it is still some useful info and illustrations.

Accidents and emergency

If you have an accident you should get overview of the situation, start giving first aid immediately and call 113.

For people with foreign numbers we highly recommend downloading the app «113». If you call the emergency number by using this app, you are also sharing your location.

When you have control of the situation, you can call our contacts in the club:
