Information on the basic courses in speedriding and paragliding by Voss Hang- og Paragliderklubb.
All of our activity is usually in norwegian, but two of our basic courses are in english. These courses are mainly for people that are living in the area, or somehow spend time around Voss trough the year. This is important to us, so that we are able to help you with your progression after the course is done. To have local instructors to give you feedback, and an active community is key to a good and safe progression after the course.
If you sign up for a course, please note the dates of the «progresjonshelg SPG». This event is free, and we will have available instructors to help you with further learning.

Checklist before the course
- Check that you have recieved the confirmation e-mail after booking your slot. Also check the spam folder if you can’t find it.
- Join the club – You don’t need to become a member until after 1th of november 2024.
- Pay the invoice in MinIdrett: membership in the federation, section, and club, as well as insurance, must be paid latest one week before the course starts.
- Pay the remaining balance to the club latest one week before the course starts.
- Sign the course contract. Print it out and bring the signed copy on the first day of the basic course.
- Check that you have appropriate gear.
- Send an email to the course coordinator if you already have your own wing or/and harness: malene@vosshpk.no.
- Order the textbook if you want to do some reading in advance.
- Create a user on flightlog.
- Check that you are a member of the Facebook group.
Basic information
The course is nine full days, and this is the minimum participation. How far we get with the progression is highly weather dependent, but we always do as much as we can with the time we have. For the speedriding course you need to be comfortable on alpine skis, and able to move around on and off-piste. The days are long, we are outside practicing when the ski lifts are open. In the afternoons we do theory lessons that leads up to a theory test. If we fulfill the requirements, you will get the «SPG2» certificate. Then you will have a basic understanding, and experience to be able to fly and keep learning more by yourself!
For the paragliding basic course you need to be in normal physical shape. The days are also quite long, and the first days on the school hill requires a lot of walking up the hill with gear.
Payment
When your entry is valid, and you will receive an e-mail with confirmation and further information for the residual payment. The course needs to be paid in full at latest 1 week before the course start.
Price for a full course is 13900 NOK
Deposit is 5000 NOK
Residual payment is 8900 NOK
Gear
Speedriding basic course
You will need alpine skis, touring skis with a safety leash or the ability to lock the tech binding in walk mode, and the corresponding ski boots. A helmet certified as EN1077 A or B, EN966, ASTM2040, or SNELL rs98, The club provides the wing and harness, and you can borrow a helmet if necessary.
In addition to the course fee, you are going to need a lift pass for the days we are in Myrkdalen or Voss Resort.
Paragliding Basic Course
You’ll get all the gear you need, so only outdoor clothes and shoes. You need a certified helmet: EN1077 A and B, EN966, ASTM2040, or SNELL rs98. You can borrow a helmet from the club also.
Membership and insurance
You have to be a member in our club. Payment for membership and insurance will be added as an invoice to your shopping cart in MinIdrett. The invoice will be ready around a week after registration. If you have signed up for a course in 2025, this payment can wait until after 1th of november 2024. It is done by card or VIPPS directly in MinIdrett. Basic insurance and memberships are in the same invoice.
Membership and insurance have to be paid latest one week before the course starts.
Logbook
To log all flights, we use the electronic logbook, “Flightlog”
We are obligated to log all flights, so that it can be checked when you apply for a new certificate. You can create a profile here: http://flightlog.org/fl.html?a=36&l=2
Create your user and get to know the page before the course start. In settings you can choose club, and there you should add «Voss Hang- og Paragliderklubb». If you want to belong to a different club after the course, you can easily change it after the course.
Teaching materials
The book can be ordered here.
You should check it out before the course. Then it will be easier to comprehend the different concepts. If you don’t have it before the course, you can by it for 450 NOK.
Communication
Before the course starts you will be added in a Facebook-group that we use to distribute practical information before and during the course. And you can of course ask questions. We also have a messenger-group connected to this group where there will be immediate updates on decisions, weather etc.

Deregistration must be done earlier than 30 days before the course starts to get a full refund.
By deregistration later than 30 days before the course starts, you will only get the residual payment refunded.
If you get hurt or ill and is not able to participate, you can check out if you have coverage by your personal travel insurance. Normally that will cover the full amount in these cases.
