Paragliding Ekstremsportveko in english

Welcome to Another Fantastic Week in the Skies Above Voss! Here you will find important information for all paragliding pilots attending Ekstremsportveko 2026, whether you are relatively new to the sport or an experienced pilot. If you have not signed up yet, you can register here!

Before You Fly

  • A valid pilot rating and paid memberships are mandatory.
  • Foreign pilots can find information here – a valid licence and insurance are required.
  • The use of SafeSky is mandatory on every flight for visibility and safety in the air.
  • Download the 113 emergency app for emergency alerts, position sharing, and safety guidance.
  • Join the WhatsApp group for paragliding participants. Enable notifications – this is our main channel for safety updates, weather information, and activity announcements.

Voss Gondola

The gondola will stay open extra hours for us during Veko, and you can catch the first ride up at 8:30 AM every morning. From Wednesday to Saturday, it will remain open until 9:30 PM.

This year, you can get a special Veko gondola pass for NOK 1,190, which gives you unlimited access throughout the festival (until Sunday). If you plan to return to Voss later in the summer, a summer pass costs NOK 1,570 and is valid until 18 October. You can find prices and tickets available during Veko here.

Communication and Meeting Point

Radio frequency for airsports in Norway: 154.175 MHz – used during flying.

Physical meeting point: Map link to the landing area at Vangsvatnet. Volunteers will be present here every day from 09:00, ready to assist you.

Voss Flying Chat – In addition to the participant group, we have a local chat group for important messages, conditions, airspace updates, and flying information around Voss throughout the year.

Safety

  • Startmarshals will be present at the main launch and other take-off sites every day.
  • Land the same direction as the pilots in front of you, and don’t land cross.
  • Rescue boat support on Vangsvatnet will be available during all planned activities and until 16:00 every day.
  • Bring your own first aid kit in your backpack so you are prepared for both minor and major incidents.
  • Be a friend and help each other. We fly better and safer together.

In Case of an Accident

Assess the situation, ensure your own safety, and begin first aid.

Call 113 and use the app to share your location.

Airspace

There is significantly increased activity during the festival week. Therefore, it is especially important to follow the recommendations above regarding SafeSky and to stay updated through the WhatsApp group.

What’s Happening?

Throughout the week, paragliding and speedflying pilots will naturally be flying from various sites around Voss and the surrounding area.

At Vangsvatnet, a tow boat operates daily and can launch tandem flights both with and without wheelchair access, as well as solo paraglider pilots.

In addition, four skydiving aircraft operate daily from 08:00 to 21:00 from Bømoen. There are also powered aircraft and gliders taking off and landing frequently.

On top of this come emergency services and special events. Helicopter activity should be expected as normal. Voss has a hospital, and air ambulances regularly arrive and depart.

The image above provides a general overview of Voss take-offs, common flight routes, and landing areas.

Flying sites – special for Veko

Tverrberg is closed for the entire festival week due to airspace limitations and the lack of an available landing field. The only approved landing area is being used as a festival campsite throughout the week.

The landing field in Aurland at Maren’s property is closed throughout the festival due to tall grass. Please help us respect the landowners. If the landing field opens, or if alternative landing areas become available, information will be shared in the local flying chat and participant group.

Flying Site Status

Hangur East – The Main Launch in Voss

Easily accessible via the Voss Gondola and often excellent for flying in the morning and early daytime when winds are light and solar heating is limited, until the wind shifts south. Launching in southerly winds is not recommended as lee-side effects and rotor turbulence may increase the risk of collapses and sink immediately after launch. Landing is at the Culture House, the club’s main landing field.

Hangur South – Gateway to Thermalling

Works well around midday when it’s sunshine and thermal activity develop. The launch area is flatter, so plan your launch run according to terrain and conditions. Be aware if westerly winds begin to dominate. This creates a lee-side situation, making launches more demanding and increasing the risk of collapses.Landing is at the Culture House, the club’s main landing field.

Afternoon Flying

Rokne – Local Hike & Fly

This launch is often excellent in westerly winds during the afternoon or for calm evening flights. Carefully assess wind strength before launch, as some afternoons can produce strong lift. There is a pleasant hike to launch. Do not park on private property or private roads. It is possible to park higher up and walk down to the launch area. Be aware of power lines and plan an alternative landing option nearby if conditions are windy. Landing is at the beach or the Gjelle landing field.

Liaset – Afternoon Flying with Stunning Views

Westerly winds in the afternoon often make Liaset a suitable option. There is road access all the way to launch, although a vehicle capable of handling rough farm roads is recommended. Tall trees below the launch require generous safety margins and crosswind conditions are not ideal. Landing is at Nesheimstunet or other agreed locations.

We also have an alternative landing field that is not open for general use. Permission is requested each time. This landing area is well suited for PP2+ pilots and tandem operations in calm valley winds. If permission is granted during the festival, information will be shared in the flying chat and participant group.

Alternative landing areas:

  • Ringheim
  • Voss Upper Secondary School
  • Grandane

Gjelle and Rokne

Landing at:

  • Lotatreet
  • Grandane

The landing field at Prestegardslandet is reserved for competitions, towing operations, and demonstration events.

Welcome to a Safe and Spectacular Week! 💙
